About This Blog
November 14, 2005 @ 4:45 pm
Many of the blogs I’ve read start with the author saying “I’ve resisted creating a blog as long as I could.” As if a blog were an enemy force that needs to be kept at bay.I’m not going to buck the trend. I, too, have been resisting the urge to start a blog for two years now. Here’s why:
- I’m lousy at thinking on my feet, and I’ll inevitably write things that I wish I could take back.
- I rewrite everything a zillion times. I’m incapable of dashing off even the shortest e-mail without rewriting, editing, consulting a thesaurus, communing with the ghost of Franz Kafka, etc. Not a good trait for a blogger to have.
- Who really cares what some random programmer/SF novelist dude has to say about the Iraq war or PHP or the state of literature anyway?
Well, these complaints notwithstanding, I’ve now dipped my toe into the Sea of Blog and there’s no turning back. So let me set some ground rules to get started.
In this blog, I will:
- talk about writing, science fiction, web programming, and current affairs
- express honest opinions
- curse
- shamelessly promote my upcoming novel Infoquake
I will not:
- blog about things everyone else has already covered ad nauseum
- blog about things nobody else cares about (the state of my toenails, my recipe for Chicken Tortilla Soup, etc.)
- censor people’s comments (unless I really, really want to)
Thanks for reading.

Dave,
But I wanna know your recipe for Chicken Tortilla Soup!
Welcome to the blogosphere. Try not to track dirt on the carpet…
Regards,
Tommy W.
Great stuff Dave-can’t wait to read more of what you have to say. Now go get a pedicure.

By saying you won’t talk about your toenails, I am now compelled to know more about your toenails. What is a blog for if not for me to learn ALL about David Louis Edelman?
I’ll give you a hint about my toenails: there are 10 of them.
Go Dave! I’m looking forward to reading it.
